ShiftTally US Support
Help for ShiftTally US, the mileage and tax logbook for gig drivers in the United States. Write to shifttally@mpoweredstudio.com and a human will answer.
Contact us
Email shifttally@mpoweredstudio.com. We aim to reply within two business days.
To get a useful answer first time, tell us your iPhone and iOS version, the version number shown in the app, what you expected to happen and what happened instead. If a figure looks wrong, the tax year and the screen it appeared on matter more than a screenshot of the total.
Never send us your password. We cannot see it and will never ask for it.
Subscription, billing and refunds
ShiftTally US needs a monthly subscription: Solo covers one vehicle, Fleet covers unlimited vehicles. Both come with a 7-day free trial and are sold through the Apple App Store, which shows the price in your own currency before you confirm anything.
Billing, cancellation and refunds are Apple's, not ours.
- Manage or cancel any time in iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Refunds are Apple's to give, not ours. Request one at https://reportaproblem.apple.com.
- We cannot issue a refund ourselves — every refund request goes through Apple.
Miles are not being recorded
Mileage tracking is manual: tap Start when you begin driving and Stop when you finish. There is no automatic drive detection, so a trip you forget to start is not recorded — the app is a logbook you run, not one that runs itself.
If you want tracking to continue while your phone is locked or you switch to a platform app, grant "Allow all the time" for location. iOS shows its own location indicator whenever that is happening.
No location reading is taken while no trip is running.
Categorizing trips
Each trip records a category — business, commuting or personal — and, where it applies, the platform you were driving for: Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, Grubhub, Amazon Flex or Other. Tag a trip as soon as you stop, since only trips marked business count toward your IRS standard mileage deduction. Commuting is not deductible but is still reported separately on Schedule C Part IV.
Signing in and syncing
Sign-up and password reset send a six-digit code to your email. If it hasn't arrived within a minute, check your spam folder and confirm the address you typed. Codes expire, so request a new one rather than reusing an old email.
ShiftTally US works offline. Anything you log without a connection is kept on the device and uploaded on the next sync, so a failed sync is not lost data. If the same account looks different on two devices, open the app on the one holding the newer records and let it finish syncing before comparing.
Exports and your records
Export your trips and the IRS standard mileage working as a report you can hand to a tax preparer or keep for your own records. Keep a copy somewhere you control: the IRS can generally ask a self-employed driver to support a claim going back three years from when you filed, longer if income was substantially underreported.
Figures in the app are arithmetic on what you logged. The IRS standard mileage rates are built into the app, each with the IRS announcement it came from, and a mid-year rate change is split by the date of each trip — you never type a mileage rate yourself. The rates you do set are your own: your federal marginal income tax rate, plus a state or local income tax rate if you pay one. The figures are a guideline, not a filed return; have a tax professional confirm them against current IRS guidance before you file.
Estimated tax and the set-aside
Quarterly estimated tax is paid with Form 1040-ES. The Set Aside feature suggests how much of what you have earned to hold back for that payment, based on what you have logged.
It is a suggestion, not a filed return — have a tax professional confirm the amount against current IRS guidance before you pay.
Privacy, data requests and deleting your account
We never upload your GPS coordinates. There is no reverse geocoding, so nothing about where you were ever leaves your phone. The privacy policy sets out every field the app records.
To erase everything, use Delete Account on the Account screen. It removes your receipt images, then every row we hold, then your sign-in, then the copy on your device. It cannot be undone, so export your report first. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription — cancel that in your device settings.
To ask what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or exercise any other right under the CCPA/CPRA, write to shifttally@mpoweredstudio.com from the address you signed up with. We answer within 45 days.
Reporting a bug or asking for a feature
Both go to the same address. Bugs that involve a wrong number are the priority, so if a deduction or set-aside total looks off, say which one and what you expected — that is the kind of report that gets a fix in the next build.
The Privacy and Terms screens inside the ShiftTally US app carry this same text.
